Around 90 percent of it is ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid almost no other plant oil carries, and that's what makes castor thick, tacky and good at staying where you put it. Castor oil is unusual at the molecular level. Roughly 90 percent of it is ricinoleic acid, and no other common plant oil is dominated by a single fatty acid like that.
